ST:  Why do you think your paper is highly cited?

It was the first randomized trial on the sirolimus-eluting stent, with a total abolition of neointimal hyperplasia.

ST:  Does it describe a new discovery or new methodology that's useful to others?

It describes the efficacy of the sirolimus-eluting stent and documents the first success in the prevention of restenosis.

ST:  Could you summarize the significance of your paper in layman's terms?

Abolition of restenosis after stenting.

ST:  How did you become involved in this research?

In the 1990’s I worked in research on coating design for stents used in the RAVEL trial and performed the first study of patients with single de novo lesions.End
