ST:  Why do you think your paper is highly cited?

Polyfluorenes and related copolymers represent a very attractive class of blue-emitting organic semiconductors for Top to bottom: U. Scherf and coauthor EJW List potential applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).

ST:  Does it describe a new discovery or a new methodology that's useful to others?

It is a review which summarizes the state-of-the-art and gives some ideas towards reliable structure-property relationships. Additionally, it overviews our findings concerning the degradation behavior of polyfluorenes.

ST:  Could you summarize the significance of your paper in layman's terms?

OLEDs are expected to gain a considerable market segment during the next decade. Our paper helps to rationalize the knowledge in the field of blue-emitting polymeric semiconductors.

ST:  How did you become involved in this research?

The research was initiated by a joint project with SONY International, Europe, Stuttgart, MSL Labs. Thanks to SONY for funding the project.End
