Why
do you think your paper is highly cited?
|

“...(the paper) provides clinical recommendations for prevention and treatment of the adverse metabolic effects of atypical
antipsychotics.”
|
|
It focuses on a clinically important issue—the adverse
metabolic effects of the newer, so-called atypical antipsychotic
drugs.
Does
it describe a new discovery or a new methodology that’s useful
to others?
The paper, which was co-written by Professor Marja-Liisa Dahl
and me, is a review of the current literature in the field. It
also provides clinical recommendations for prevention and
treatment of the adverse metabolic effects of atypical
antipsychotics.
Could
you summarize the significance of your paper in layman’s terms?
Adverse metabolic effects of atypical antipsychotics may have
a negative influence on both the antipsychotic treatment outcome
as well as the physical health of the patient. Therefore, these
effects have to be recognized and adequately managed. In this
respect, this paper is important and well worth reading.
How
did you become involved in this research?
I became involved in psychoendocrinological research when I
was an assistant physician at the Department of Endocrinology,
Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, 15 years ago. Later on, in the
year 2000, I gained my doctor’s degree with a dissertation
titled: "Influence of antipsychotic drugs on hormone
levels." Since then, I have continued researching within
this field.
