ST:  Why do you think your paper is highly cited?

Possibly because entrepreneurial and epistemological issues are rarely addressed jointly.

ST:  Does it describe a new discovery or a new methodology that’s useful to others?

You could call the distinction between entrepreneurial and managerial epistemologies a discovery. But it still has the character of a hypothesis that needs to be empirically tested.

ST:  Could you summarize the significance of your paper in layman’s terms?

If the empirical hypothesis—that entrepreneurial and managerial epistemologies are distinct—is corroborated by research, it challenges the relevance and effectiveness of current management education philosophies for the training of entrepreneurs. It also raises issues concerning how one fosters entrepreneurial skills in large companies.

ST:  How did you become involved in this research?

Ian Macmillan and I both collaborate at the Sol C. Snider Entrepreneurial Research Center of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. For a number of years we have been working on a knowledge management research project. The paper was a natural outcome of our collaboration on this project.End
