ST:  Why do you think your paper is highly cited?

It introduces a new resource—a set of genetically modified lines that have been made available to the entire plant community—and describes the technology behind it.

ST:  Does it describe a new discovery or new methodology that's useful to
others?

New methodology in gain-of-function genetics that serves as a powerful complement to gene knock outs.

ST:  Could you summarize the significance of your paper in layman's
terms?

It introduces a powerful new method that has become widely used in plant genetics.End

Detlef Weigel received his Ph.D. from Max Planck Institute in Tübingen, Germany. He was an EMBO Postdoctoral Fellow and ACS California Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Weigel is the recipient of an NSF Young Investigator Award.
