 Why
do you think your paper is highly cited?
Cell signaling is a very topical area, and there is enormous
interest in the field of protein phosphorylation, particularly
because protein kinases and phosphatases are becoming increasingly
important targets for therapeutic intervention in human disease. I
suspect that most of the people who have cited the paper have not
read it in detail, but rather used it as a convenient and recent
generic review on protein phosphorylation. In this regard, I think
that review citations should be put in a separate category from
papers reporting primary research, and that review citations should
be excluded from research impact factor calculations.
Is
it a condensation of previous literature on the subject?
Not really. It provides a historical perspective on cell
signaling, and then proceeds to try to make some predictions about
where the protein phosphorylation field is headed.
